Designed to minimise the impact on cleaners’ workflow, Mobi’s compact design is inobtrusive to manoeuvre between collection locations, clamping snugly against a bin or trolley. Its long-lasting batteries are also hot-swappable, enabling extended on-the-go use with negligible interruption.

Mobi’s grippers are opposing rubber cam-shaped cogs, spaced apart such that they will gently grip onto any bin liner, regardless of thickness without fear of tearing. As a bag is hung, the grippers rotate, holding the bag as tight as is needed under its own weight.

Weight data recorded by Mobi is transmitted to a phone and then uploaded to the cloud – accessible via the Bintracker platform. The BLE Bluetooth protocol was selected to remove the need for cleaners to connect at the start of every shift manually. Additionally, an integrated wireless phone charger negates ‘low power anxiety’.

Mobi’s visual design language encourages both facility managers and cleaners to perceive the device as a precision measuring device, rather than a regular cleaning tool. It avoids the obvious but alienating “power tool” aesthetic for a gender-neutral, ‘tech’ aesthetic.

The device’s bright OLED screen communicates the device’s status and displays measured weights before transmission to a mobile. A simple control panel lets users tare the weight or switch between metric/imperial units on demand. Clever firmware programming also minimises power consumption, maximising battery life.

In addition to the commercial benefits, Mobi’s use can accelerate behavioural change in our attitude to waste. Giving managers and individuals a metric to improve upon provides accountability and empowers them to avoid the unsustainable tendency to throw away precious resources.
