“Simply” explaining the complex.

Bintracker is a waste management solution that provides facility managers with all the data and insights they need to optimise their waste footprint. In preparation for an industry trade show, Bintracker commissioned an animation project to complement their exhibition of Bintracker prototypes (including the Cobalt-designed Mobi waste scale).

The catch… a challenging three-week timelinefrom concept to completion.

The client’s primary objective was to emphasise the “power and breadth” of the Bintracker platform and share the multiplicity of solutions it offers in an easily digestible format. Five key functions were identified, and these became the foundational framework for the story structure.

A clever combination of 3D animation, motion graphics and animated text allowed us to simplify complex ideas while maintaining user engagement. A macro photography art style tied these concepts together, visually conveying the platform’s scalability and interconnectivity while reinforcing Bintracker’s position as a forward-thinking waste management solution. Energetic percussion underscored the entire animation, adding rhythm and excitement to the visuals while punctuating the animated captions.

The result: a compelling, visually dynamic 90-second animation that introduces Bintracker’s features, benefits and functionality clearly and effectively.

Immersing ourselves in the Bintracker ecosystem allowed us to faithfully replicate software features such as charts, graphs, and user interface elements throughout the animation. This authenticity strengthened the animation’s credibility, providing potential clients with a clear understanding of the platform’s capabilities and helping to position Bintracker as a reliable and innovative industry leader.

Through close collaboration with the client, we crafted a cohesive five-chapter structure to present Bintracker’s versatile capabilities. Unveiling the micro (tenant-level) to macro (portfolio-wide) benefits clearly and logically positioned Bintracker as a comprehensive waste metrics solution, appealing to clients in various sectors, especially those driven by environmental policy considerations.

A carefully developed visual style brought technical data to life in a creative and engaging way. The animation’s polished aesthetic, characterised by consistent blue tones, clean typography and stylised graphics, elevated the brand’s identity and attracted attention from businesses seeking innovative, data-driven solutions.

The use of 2D animation to visualise software and metrics ensured technical material was not only accurate but clearly understood by viewers. Real Bintracker charts and UI elements, contextualised with 3D scenarios, portrayed the platform’s data-driven insights in an easily digestible manner, driving awareness of waste tracking as an essential new tool.

Stylised 3D scenes depicting rubbish trucks, urban spaces and workers as toylike miniatures created an approachable yet technically robust visualisation of the Bintracker ecosystem. These scenes underscored the platform’s use case scenarios, practicality and scalability, supporting the client’s transition from a software company to an integrated solutions provider.

Video editing and music were pivotal in sustaining the animation’s pacing and flow, ensuring visuals and messaging remained aligned. Aligning the visuals with a punchy drum beat rhythm created a lively animation that engaged potential clients, raised awareness, and helped create new market opportunities in a clear and compelling style.

Cobalt previously worked with Bintracker to develop Mobi, a mobile smart scale that facilitates waste measurement upon collection. In addition to the high-level Bintracker explainer video, Cobalt filled out Bintracker’s portfolio of marketing material with an in-depth look at Mobi.

This overview video is predominantly composed of live-action footage showcasing use case scenarios, supported by several 3D animated shots and stock video to highlight key messages. Combined with a voiceover and on-screen captions, it provides a tangible, clear explanation of all aspects of the product, demonstrating the ins and outs of how it works and how it benefits facility managers and businesses.
