Light Work:

IS LEDi is a high-powered RGBW lighting system engineered to meet strict Intrinsically Safe (IS) standards. Specifically designed for hazardous, low-visibility underground longwall mining environments, the system is built to withstand impacts, static interference, fires and ingress.

The IS LEDi system consists of a Bluetooth Gateway device (GXU), an Interface module (IXU), and the intrinsically safe light itself (LXU). Each light is individually controlled through Bluetooth wireless mesh technology, enabling it to display multiple colour variations, flash sequences, and brightness levels. This connectivity allows for environmental factors to trigger flashing warning signals or highlight the locations of fire extinguishers and first aid stations.

Cobalt built upon the proven design for manufacture (DFM) method established with Burn-Brite’s first-generation LXU. The light’s low profile was maintained and assembly time was further reduced by eliminating redundant screws and implementing snap-in assembly for moulded parts. Burn-Brite’s newly developed electronics have been drastically streamlined, with integrated LEDs removing the need for numerous, outdated LED sub-assembly components.

The result achieved a complete aesthetic overhaul, the integration of modern LED technology and a more efficient manufacturing process. This system sets a new benchmark for lighting solutions in mining, combining style and innovation – all while meeting critical IS standards.
