We are excited to announce that three of Cobalt’s recent products have taken home Good Design Awards for 2021.
Dating back to 1958, the Good Design Awards are recognised globally and one of the most prestigious design programs in Australia. This year, the Good Design Awards called for designs that can change society for the better, improving our quality of life, under the theme of ‘Design for a Better Future.’ We’re extremely proud to see the Cylite HP-OCT receive not only a Gold Good Design Award, but Best in Class for the Engineering Category. In total, our three entries were honoured with four awards:
Cylite HP-OCT – Best in Class (Engineering)
Good Design Award Gold (Product Design Medical and Scientific)
The Cylite HP-OCT integrates Cylite’s patented imaging technique into a market leading OCT device delivering industry leading scan rates, fully automatic operation, and high-resolution data capture. Aimed for use in a variety of clinical settings, including research laboratories and clinics, the HP-OCT has been designed to integrate a high technology core within an ergonomic, user-friendly exterior.
Bio-Rad CFX Opus – Good Design Award
The CFX Opus is a molecular biology instrument used in a wide range of research, diagnostic and industrial applications. The instrument sets new temperature uniformity benchmarks in qPCR, the technique of detecting and amplifying DNA. The key design challenge was developing a next generation qPCR system, transforming the instrument’s usability and results consistency, while creating a fresh new look that fits in with the existing Bio-Rad lineup.
SpaElectrics Retro Pool Light – Good Design Award
The Spa Electrics Retro Series Pool Light caters to various replacement/retrofit applications in both Australian and North American markets. Retrofitting existing or broken pool lights with energy-efficient technology is currently complicated, often requiring two call-outs to order/fit a suitable replacement. Its patent-pending universal cam lock mechanism significantly simplifies installation and subsequent maintenance.
Truly Team Awards
We are even prouder of the team behind all these products, especially with all the added stresses and complications that has come with the past 12-18 months. We would like to give a special mention to Project Leaders Kynan, Kate and Libby for their leadership that led to the design excellence recognised this year. For Cobalt, this year’s theme perfectly fits in with what drives all our designs – a dedication to being socially responsible and improving the world we live in. Thus, we feel that these awards are a true testament to the Cobalt spirit that our team puts into every project.
While it’s a shame that for the second year in a row, the Awards ceremony would have to be done virtually, we look forward to celebrating all the other winners and entrants over the course of the Good Design Awards Week. The Good Design Awards have never failed to showcase the best of Australian and International design and innovation, and thus we give a massive congratulations to all other deserving awardees.
