Getting to the Heart of Cardiovascular Care

magAssist’s MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD is China’s first external heart pump. Designed to address the nation’s critical burden of treatable cardiovascular diseases, the device supports patients undergoing heart surgery, managing acute conditions or awaiting heart transplants. Along with design and engineering contributions to the device, Cobalt developed a 3D animation to share the MoyoAssist® story globally.

Working closely with magAssist, animation development navigated language barriers and geographical distance to integrate ample creativity and importantly, medical expertise. All key features of the device are explained using product animation, camera movement and voiceover; including the pump’s orientation, versatility and resistance to vibration, touch screen user interface and the maglev motor’s operation.

By positioning the MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD as a solution for critical healthcare challenges, the animation underscored magAssist’s life-saving vision, highlighting the broader implications of cardiovascular health globally, especially in underserved regions.

The storyboarding process was key to aligning the animation with magAssist’s objectives, ensuring it effectively communicated the MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD’s key features with the right level of detail to engage viewers. Iterative planning of scenes, messaging, and pacing captured audience attention, showcasing magAssist as an industry leader and innovator.

To showcase MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD’s innovative maglev technology, we animated Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data provided by the client’s engineering team. This engaging visualisation involved translating detailed technical data into flow line trajectories in the 3D space. The sequence visually underscores magAssist’s expertise in developing advanced medical technologies.

3D animated scenes employed realistic materials, dynamic motion, and studio lighting to showcase the device’s key components, including its touch screen, controls, and adjustable pump positions. Animation allowed for an idealised pre-launch demonstration, highlighting MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD’s features and benefits to prospective stakeholders – ahead of the lengthy medical certification process.

Setting the stage with statistics about the devastating, widespread impact of cardiovascular diseases contextualises the scope of the problems that magAssist aims to address. This background not only raised awareness about cardiovascular disease, but also elevated magAssist’s reputation as innovators looking to save lives using advanced medical technology.

The development of English captions that could be meaningfully rendered in Chinese required multiple rounds of collaboration to ensure technical accuracy, marketing precision and cultural resonance. This essential attention to detail strengthens magAssist’s global presence and international credibility, appealing to international audiences while exhibiting their distinctive Chinese identity.
