Our co-founder, Steve Martinuzzo, has been recognised for his extensive contributions to Australian design, with his induction into the Design Institute of Australia Hall of Fame.

The DIA Hall of Fame is reserved for designers who leave a lasting legacy of contribution and achievement in the Australian design industry.

Steve built his over-30-year-long career working as an industrial designer in Australia (and overseas) before co-founding Cobalt Design alongside Jack Magree in 1996 – driven by the ambition to enrich people’s lives through good design. Throughout his journey, Steve has been fortunate to learn from and be inspired by many incredible people, including Bob Pataki, Gerry Mussett, Daphne Flynn and Warwick Brown, to name only a few.

Not only has Steve worked as a designer on many iconic, high-profile projects that has shaped our experiences, but also as a leader – guiding the next generation of designers and engineers to succeed. Alongside lecturing at both Monash and RMIT, he has trained and mentored dozens of industrial designers, product design engineers and professional placement students at Cobalt since its formation.

This Hall of Fame recognition is a testament to Steve’s impact on design in Victoria and Australia. We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Steve’s achievement and the legacy he continues to build.

The feeling of achievement at the end of a successful project—of creating as a team something far greater than the sum of our individual parts—is one of the most precious rewards of design.
