Cobalt was delighted to receive an Award of Merit at the inaugural Designers Australia Awards for our most recent work for KeepCup.

These awards, run by the Design Institute of Australia, celebrate the craft and professionalism of design, just as much as the outcome.

KeepCup has always been a product where innovation and the process of change have been at the core of its design. Making this award especially satisfying to receive for our group.

This project marks 12 years of a continuous design & product development partnership between KeepCup and Cobalt. From our start, KeepCup created this massive market segment, and is now THE leading global brand for reusable coffee cups.

According to the Designers Australia jury; “(We are) delighted to award the team behind this design classic an Award of Merit. The brief included several client-defined & design generated aims to seal existing glass & new stainless steel Cups. Cobalt’s integrated user-centred design and engineering processes resolved these issues.

The KeepCup Thermal retains all KeepCup’s design cues within a material that provides uncompromised liveability. Stainless steel is 100% recyclable, remains stain and odour free and does not readily degrade over time.

Visually similar to other KeepCup Lids, the new Press-Fit Lid is very different in detail design & construction. Its variable wall thicknesses & twinshot construction allows a far greater range of flex, even fitting Cups which are outside their size and ‘roundness’ specification. The result has meant a dramatic reduction in glass cup reject rates; another huge cost in materials & logistics.

Cobalt Founding Principal Steve Martinuzzo said, “We’re incredibly proud to be recognised by our peers for our design and engineering work for KeepCup. Over the years many of our crew have worked on KeepCup’s product range, none better than the team behind this latest project, led by Kate Bednarz, and supported by our entire team including design engineers Davis Tolley and Robert Cuzner”.
